“Ruben is hands down the best caterer I could ever have ever hoped for on our 5.22.21 wedding at Big Spring Farm in Lexington, VA.

I don’t even know where to begin because I’m honestly sad writing this knowing we are no longer working together. I knew before getting engaged that we would have bbq at our wedding. With Hogback every single thing clicked and it’s the only caterer we considered. The food is SO good that we will go down in history as the wedding with the best food (which is what I always wanted!) One of our guests had three helpings of the cole slaw and said it was the best he’s ever had, and let me tell you this man knows his food. Everyone else couldn’t stop raving about the brisket, mac and cheese, cornbread, everything. Anyways, Ruben not only has the best food (if you are truly looking for epic grub I don’t know why you’d even bother looking elsewhere after coming across his business), but beyond this he’s the most incredible vendor to work with. He’s extremely prompt, patient, helpful and kind. I basically texted him through email because he was that good and receptive to anything and everything I asked. No task was too big or small for him, and he and his team went above and beyond to ensure we had the most incredible day, and it was just that. I actually decided to book Hogback as our rehearsal dinner as well at Great Valley Farm Brewery because it was just so easy and stress free to work with them, and after trying Ruben’s bbq at the brewery one day we were HOOKED. He even added little things here and there that I asked for help with (apple crates for decoration, ice cream scoops etc.). I truly cannot recommend Hogback Mountain enough, but I hope this review shows how easy it should be to stop reading reviews and pick this vendor ASAP!!!“

“Best dang BBQ!

AMAZING food, AMAZING service, and AMAZING people! Hogback Mtn BBQ catered our wedding on 11/7 and they did an incredible job. Our guests can't stop raving about the BBQ, Ruben was an absolute joy to work with, and Joyce and Jennifer made our place settings look so beautiful! Ruben accommodated so many last minute changes that came due to hiccups in wedding planning and didn't bat an eye. I can't recommend them enough for your next event.“

“Delicious Food and Exceptional Service.

We ordered BBQ Pork and Slider Buns, BBQ Chicken, Potato Salad, and Baked Beans for 30 adults. Ruben was unbelievably helpful throughout the entire process. He made everything so easy and gave us a number of suggestions which worked out perfectly. Ruben and his wife personally delivered the food and helped set it up for us. they could not have been more helpful and friendly.

The food itself exceeded all of our expectations. It was all delicious and the quantities were more than enough. All of our guests raved about the food.

“Reuben and his Hogback Mtn. crew are absolutely wonderful!

I booked them for my wedding in August and not only was the food DELICIOUS, Reuben was amazing to work with. It turned out our venue required a ton of extras from the caterer that aren't usually in a standard catering contract and Reuben was so sympathetic and worked so hard to tweak things and make it perfect. He was extremely responsive via e-mail and was so kind in all of our conversations. He really cares about the events that he caters and it's so obvious the love and hard work he puts in to each one. We had a lot of back and forths with our venue and Reuben accommodated all of our changes and was super flexible with everything. He was also really helpful with rentals and all of the other things that come up with planning a catered event! I highly recommend his services and am so thankful that we found him for our wedding! Again, the food is incredible!”

FAQ

What happens if it rains the day of our BBQ cookout?

In most cases rain will not affect our BBQ cooking, wind, on the other hand, may slow our cooking times and this is considered an "act of God". As far as your party we recommend tents or canopies in case of rain. They also provide great shade in hot weather. We can coordinate a tent rental of any size for a nominal fee, or refer you to a tent rental company. Otherwise, you may want to have a backup plan for indoors or consider booking a venue.

Do you offer rental items like china, tents, etc?

Sort of, we can help you coordinate rentals through a rental company that we use. If you like the rental proposal, you just contact them directly to make the actual booking.

I'm interested in booking a specific date but not ready to commit, can youPENCIL ME IN OR contact me if someone is interested in the date I want so I can book it first? 

We get asked this question a lot. At times we have discussed a specific date with many people over several weeks or months and can't possibly hold or contact everyone about the date. We even talk to people, send them a proposal and never hear from them. Then weeks later start talking to someone else about the date when the contract arrives in the mail from the person you discussed the date about weeks ago. Our goal is to book the date, so we kindly ask you to consider it like an "Event Ticket' for a concert or sporting event. If you want the ticket, purchase it before they are sold out. Whoever returns a signed catering agreement with a deposit for a specific date, gets the date and our services guaranteed. If however, you request us to send you the proposal/catering agreement with the intent of signing and returning it, we will hold that date for a 3 days for you to review and sign the agreement and make the deposit soon after. 

What are your charges for children?

 Our current policy is the first 50 guests (excluding special events menu, ask for details) are billed at adult rates, after that any children age 8 and under will be half price for on-site catering provided the adult to child ratio does not exceed 15%. 

Our uncle has a few family recipe's and wants to cook all of the sides himself will you cook just the meats?

Sorry, but due to insurance regulations, there can not be food served at an event we cater that is a time and temperature controlled item. Baked goods like cookies are just fine. We’d be happy to prepare your families recipe of items if possible.

I am going to invite 100 guests but I'm not sure how many guests will show up, how many guests do I have to pay for if less show up?

We price, prepare and cook for the number of guests you tell us, our charges are for the confirmed guest count or actual guest count if greater than the confirmed count. For instance, you book us to serve 125 guests 6 months before the event, we will call about 14 days prior to the event to get the "Confirmed" headcount. This confirmed count is the amount you pay for, and the amount we prepare for.
